Luckily, Rosa was on hand to brutally clatter the prison van into her as she attempted her daring escape. We all knew what would one day happen. Maybe we didn't know it was going to happen so soon though.

Vee was also a motherly figure to Taystee Peacemaker 's Danielle Brooks outside of prison and quickly drove a wedge between her and her best friend, Poussey, when Poussey pushed back against Vee's takeover of the Blacks. She was shy and had difficulty expressing her feelings, preferring to express herself through poetry.

While the show was mainly about Piper, it took time to showcase and explore many of her fellow inmates. This further unionized the inmates against the guards, resulting in the riot. The big and brutal frame of Desi Piscatella is hard to sympathize with even before he opens his mouth. None of the inmates felt like an extra or was forgotten, with so many of them brought to life and having their stories told. Poussey avoided violence and was one of the few to resist Vee's manipulation during season 2. Soon enough, her dark side was revealed through a few increasingly odd scenarios, including an infamous spiteful sex scene. She took advantage of her desperation for love and used her for her criminal organization within the prison. At first, it seems like she's all for it, but then she decides to really try to get clean and tells him she could no longer do his dirty work. In season 3, her mother passed away, and she fell into a dark depression and turned to alcoholism. Poussey's death was egregiously handled, and little to no justice was served — a fact that festered among the inmates and was a large contributing factor to the start of a prison riot in season 5.
