Sally Acorn is the name of several different fictional anthropomorphic characters seen in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Initially conceived by Sega of America as a localised English name for Ricky , Sally quickly transformed into her own character in both North American and British pieces of Sonic media, most of which were developed separately from one another. This resulted in the Sonic franchise having multiple, wildly different characters concurrently sharing the Sally Acorn name across different pieces of media. Characterised by her tactical mind and drive to solve problems using logic, she is perhaps the most recognised iteration of Sally, even having a cameo appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball. After the cancellations of SatAM and Sonic the Comic in and respectively, Archie's comic series remained the last piece of official Sonic media to feature Sally as a character up until its cancellation in Not a single version of Sally has made an official appearance since. When brought to the west, the rescued animals in Sonic the Hedgehog were given localised names and a backstory, as outlined by the Sonic the Hedgehog Bible. Of these, the character Ricky became known as "Sally Acorn", with his gender being changed to female in the process. As such, when DiC were designing their Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons, they chose to base the female lead on Sally. In earlier versions of the concept, a "Princess Acorn" character, with an entirely different design to the finished product, is shown being ready to take on Robotnik as part of a "freedom team".

Princess Sally Alicia Acorn is one of the main protagonists in the Sonic the Hedgehog and its spin-off comic series published by Archie Comics. She is a mobian chipmunk, the regally and unbearably beautiful and very attractive tomboy daughter of King Acorn and leader of the New Freedom Fighters. Born as the heir to her fathers throne, she was taken, as a child, to the sanctuary of Knothole Village in the Wood Zone by her nanny Rosie Woodchuck when her father was betrayed by his royal adviser, Dr. Eggman and led the New Freedom Fighters on many field missions against the scientist when he took power after banishing the King to the Special Zone. After King Acorn was rescued and resumed his role as king, Sally continued to lead the New Freedom Fighters in the ongoing battle against the Eggman Empire. She is a mobian chipmunk with tan-brown fur with light brown on the face and torso as well as short, auburn hair, blue eyes, and a short bushy tail. As opposed to her pre-Super Genesis Wave self, Sally has bigger eyes, rounded cheeks, a morerounded hairstyle, and a outfit strikingly similar to her Mecha Sally armor. Her new clothes consist of a black, sleeveless crop-top andblack shorts, both with white rimming, darker blue boots with white outlines on the buckles, and white gloves with blue bangles. She retains her blue vest, but she now wears it closed and, like her boots, it is colored a slightly darker shade of blue than originally. Her tan-colored underbelly also remains.
