Taraw Peak in El Nido is up there with my favorite viewpoints in the Philippines. Most people are in El Nido for island hopping, which is amazing but not really an adrenaline rush. In fact, my friend Bryan who is the suggested Taraw Peak guide also works as a tour guide on island-hopping trips so you will definitely be down in time for a quick breakfast before you set off for island hopping in El Nido. From the town and from out on the boats you will see the jagged cliffs that hang over the town. They look dramatic and impossible to climb but there is a route. This is where I met my guide Bryan an hour before sunrise.

This hike was an epic adventure! Taraw Peak is a beautiful lookout point above the town of El Nido that looks over the city, the bay and some stunning islands! The majority of tourists come to El Nido to strictly island hop, however, this hike is something you do not want to miss! The Palawan is an amazing area known for stunning beaches and island hopping tours! Taraw Peak is located directly in the centre of El Nido town and has a hidden entrance which winds through a local neighborhood! This hike is surely not for the faint of heart! To get to the top of Taraw Peak, this involves scaling jagged limestone rock formations with some at 90 degree angles! This sounds more intimidating than it is however, as many fitness levels and ages were apart of our group! This hike is very possible for just about anyone. This brings us to one of the most important pieces of advice we can give you. Which is to get an experienced guide! This hike can be dangerous and many people have gotten hurt going up with unqualified guides. Himself and his team are well qualified and took courses in search and rescue! We met our guide in front of the local bakery at 4. We then quietly walked through the nearby village at the base of the mountain until we reached the begining of the trail. Doing this hike on your own would be really dangerous and if you injure yourself, you risk the entire hiking trail being closed down. I took my gloves off for a photo and cut my hand in just that short time. Hiking in the dark will likely feel a little scary and sketchy, so I just advise listening to your guide on where to climb and taking your time.
