Dell charger turns off when plugged in

November 7th, I have this problem too 0.

This post is more than 5 years old. September 14th, I bought a Inspiron 15r N last feburary and now I think the powesupply went out. I plug the charger into the wall and the light is on, when I plug the other end into the pc the light on the charger goes off, I've tried this with two different chargers and they both behave the same. No response form the pc with either charger. The second charger I used I know works, so I figure it must be the power supply, if thats true, where do I get one?

This post is more than 5 years old. April 20th, I have a Dell D laptop. Up till yesterday, it functioned perfectly. Yesterday morning, I noticed that I was running on battery power, even though I was plugged into the wall. I check the adapter, and the green light was not lit. I unplugged the adapter from the laptop and the wall, and plugged it back into the wall. The adapter light lit up and stayed illuminated. As soon as I plugged it into the laptop, the green light on the adapter turned itself off. I spoke with a friend who happens to repair laptops, and he's seen about a dozen of the Dell D-Series all with issue. He has no answer as to what exactly might have gone wrong. Has anyone here seen or fixed this issue, short of sending the laptop in for repair? I have this problem too 0. Responses

Last month my office laptop dies down in similar fashion.

June 27th, I woke up this morning and my laptop wouldn't turn on. No sign that it was working at all, no lights turning on or anything. I tried plugging in the charger again, nothing. I tried it with 2 other chargers, same thing. Is this an issue with the jack, power supply, hard drive, or motherboard? Read some other posts here and some other people had issues with those, although their situations were slightly different from mine.

August 16th, Hi guys! So about 2 and a half months ago, I had a little mishap with my laptop charger. Dunno why I didn't come here first, but it's never too late! Anyway, I had just finished using my laptop for the night, and was plugging it in to charge. I noticed it was a bit difficult to insert. I was skeptical. After that, I looked at the charging port.

Actually, my lcd was blinking so I disassembled the unit and reseat the LCD. Thinking this to be due to short-circuit, I again disassembled the unit and reseat everything Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual electricity. I have similar problem with my Vostro So, I think the problem is with the motherboard right??? I tried to replaced the dc-in port and re-assembled all cables on the MB, the problem is still there. I have a Dell D laptop. When I pulled out the AC plug and plugged it back in, I noticed the charging light would go on for like seconds then turn off. Thinking now that it was ice cold it would work, I tried plugging it in. I want to be a partner to this cite. Latest Solutions. No difference, it instantly drops to 0 voltage. Welcome to the Dell Community mademoune. None of the 3 wires should be connected to each other but it looks like that the problem is the mainboard.

My laptop turned on and worked perfectly for another 6 years. Would you agree or do you have another Idea? I understand that if those two options didn't work it might be a motherboard issue, but I thought I would ask around and see if anyone has any suggestions, thanks! Everyone just speculated. When I unplug it, it stays dead until I unplug from the wall outlet and plug back in, then it's blue again. The fact that the light goes out means a short somewhere in the items he mentioned. I check the adapter, and the green light was not lit. I need a motherboard for my machine. So far I have tried replacing the battery and the dc jack and neither one fixed the issue. Today the battery was low so I tried to charge it. If the motherboard is working fine with the battery means that vital parts of the mobo are good, isn't it?? When I pulled out the AC plug and plugged it back in, I noticed the charging light would go on for like seconds then turn off. Could this be the wrong power supply? If I now connect the charger to the loose charging jack the LED at the charger stay on.
