Ran x on x showed up much smaller in a window and "forced" fullscreen on i3wm. Kind of grainy, but nothing game changing. Windowed was less than resolution stated, but went full screen without issues. Using i3wm, I don't alt-tab, but I could swap to other "desktops" while in pause screen. I tried a number of the launch options posted here I think four before I got this one right , but this one works just fine.
