The Llanelli Warriors Mixed Ability team is celebrating their 25th anniversary with their most prestigious fixture to date and one that sees the launch of a new concept in mixed ability rugby, llanelli warriors. The Warriors were about as far away from Wales as it is possible to get and so conversation moved onto what else could be achieved. Not only that but Matthew now has a job placement helping other young people to take part in and enjoy rugby! Mixed Ability Rugby welcomes all players, there genuinely is a jersey for all, with or without a disability everyone is part of the team and their contribution is valued. It's the transformational nature of Mixed Ability Rugby that has inspired Stu to take on his own personal fitness challenge and raise money for the team so that new players can have the opportunities and experiences that Matthew has had. Stu had not cycled for some time and doubted his own fitness and ability to cycle miles but he's been training hard and is ready to go! The 1st meeting between the sides took place at the side of the famous Recreation Ground in Bath and they served up a game worthy of the history of venue. Although local side Walcot had home advantage, with it being only their 2nd season, the Llanelli team had experience on their side. The visitors had the edge for the opening quarter but found the home team hard to break down. The wings had plenty of opportunity but squandered several clear cut chances but eventually centre Johnathan Kearney was worked clear. Walcot were disrupted by an injury to fly half Dan Haine but looked dangerous on the break and worked the conditions well. Although Llanelli scored again through centre Murphy, there was plenty to play for at the half way stage. The Llanelli team would have been disappointed not to be further ahead but Walcot knew they could have been even closer. They started the second half strongly and scored from a quick penalty to through the game wide open. Andrew Davies almost crossed but Walcot also had their moments and some last ditch tackling was needed to keep the lead. Busy scrum half Craig James got the Warriors further ahead as he capitalised on his forwards efforts with allowed the visitors some breathing space.

The festive season might be upon us, but neither side were feeling charitable in this tough encounter at People's Park. The Warriors lost Jac Lewis in the warm up, but still had 29 players pulling on the jersey. The team fronted up in the face of the Panthers physical challenge and managed to take points when the opportunities arose. The Panthers battled throughout but on a few occasions let promising positions go due to indiscipline. It a close game, it was critical. The closeness of the teams was illustrated by there being no score for the 1st 30 minutes as they teams looked for an edge.
