Design superstar Philippe Starck has a hand in the design of a new Asian restaurant in the heart of Paris, France. A few steps from the street in Paris' Golden Triangle, Miss Co takes her guests on a culinary and cultural journey. Guests can enjoy fresh sushi from both traditional and progressive cooking, while the chef's specialties combine a variety of Asian influences with a distinct European sensibility. The m2 space suggests a pseudo futuristic whimsy where an alley in a gritty, unspecified metropolis gets transformed into a high-definition aesthetic adventure. If the sooty exposed brick plays yin, then the yang is represented by David Rochline's pulsing fresco of animated figures, a bar under-lit by myriad mini screens running news shows in foreign languages and an enormous teapot-shaped lantern that hangs over a communal table with kitschy comic relief. And just who is Miss Ko? Appearing nude yet fully adorned in decorative tattoos, the imaginary muse is described as an 'uprooted Eurasian' who brings her 'culinary and artistic world to Parisians'. And apparently, she's used her enigmatic charms to lure a strong creative team that includes executive chef Fabrice Monot expect crowd-pleasing elevated Asian street food , soundtrack expert Orsten Karki, multimedia artist Eric Dalbin and Rami Mekdachi - the perfume specialist responsible for the Costes and Colette scents, who developed a signature olfactory identity for the restaurant. The interior is an amalgamation of the diversity that exists in the fastest growing cities in Asia; fast, layered, textured, chaotic and yet beautiful. Everything in this interior is an adventure; the food, the art and the surfaces all share the same responsibility, which is to create a moment of interaction between user and space. In the dining room, a few key elements are pivotal components to the interior design: the massive screen bar, the spectacular fresco by David Rochline and the huge teapot-cum-lamp. You are constantly surrounded by signs that ooze Asian ambiance, where you see shades of grey collide with colour and the furnishings are a mix of contemporary items and ancient Far East inspiration. Inside, this neo-Asian experience unfolds through different channels.
