Even though Izuku was born Quirkless , he manages to catch the attention of the legendary Hero All Might , due to his innate heroism and a strong sense of justice, and has since become his close pupil, as well as a student in Class 1-A at U. High School. Izuku is somewhat short for his age, his round face is framed by a short mop of fluffy dark-green hair which curls up at odd angles around his head, casting noticeably dark shadows onto itself. His eyes are large and somewhat circular and his irises are the same shade of green as his hair, which at times are very watery, and are usually stretched quite wide, giving him an innocent, energized appearance. He has a set of four symmetrical freckles in diamond formations, one on each cheek. Izuku has often been described as "plain-looking" or "not standing out" by others. Though he was initially very skinny, Izuku has gained toned muscles after his ten months of extensive training with All Might, and as the series progresses, these are shown to become more developed and defined as he gradually grows stronger. After his battle against Shoto Todoroki , the fingers on his right hand became slightly deformed, and his hand shows visible scarring. His right arm was further damaged after his intense fight with Muscular , leaving many more scars. Following his recovery after the previously mentioned fight, Izuku wears a black compression sleeve on the upper portion of his right arm in order to support the heavy damage it sustained: it is partially visible when he wears short sleeves. During his time in Junior High School , he wore a plain black gakuran uniform with yellow buttons, accompanied by his signature bright red high top boots, which have thick white soles and black laces. While at home, he wears a green jinbei over a white shirt and gray sweatpants. Instead of the plain brown shoes worn by the majority of the student body, he still sports his signature red shoes. Izuku's first hero costume , known as "Costume Alpha," was a light green full-body jumpsuit with a red belt, elbow pads, knee pads, and gloves, along with his signature red boots.

Following the conclusion of the Paranormal Liberation War, Izuku had begun to drastically change his behavior.

High School , training to become a Pro Hero. He is the deuteragonist of the series. Katsuki is a young man of average height, with a slim, muscular build, and a fair skin tone. He has short, spiky, sandy blond hair with choppy bangs that hang over his eyebrows. His eyes are sharp and bright red in color. At school, he wears the standard U.

Initially born without a " quirk " to call his own, Izuku nevertheless grew up with aspirations to become a superhero in his own right. In this universe, quirks are what we would generally refer to as superpowers or superhuman abilities. Mockingly nicknamed "Deku" by childhood classmate and former bully Katsuki Bakugo , Izuku would later save him from a villain, in turn winning over the interest of All Might , Izuku's childhood idol and 1 hero, who in turn passes down his sacred One For All quirk to him. After being accepted into U. High School, Izuku's classmate Ochaco Uraraka inspires him to embrace his nickname and he uses it as his hero name. Izuku has received praise by critics for his character development and personality, and has also made consistent appearances in popularity polls related to the series. This prototype appears only in a one-shot comic written by Horikoshi called My Hero. Horikoshi revised the design of Akatani's character, as he was especially dissatisfied with the hair and shortened it for Midoriya. Initially the protagonist was to remain Quirkless. Horikoshi changed the direction of Midoriya's character by adding his acquisition of One For All, due to suggestions from editors that argued that a powerless main protagonist would be overshadowed by other superpowered characters.
